An unexpected feature of the Tramway is a surviving equestrian staircase which led to 8 stables on the first floor with 36 horses per stable. The example, below, of early semi-detached houses in Pollokshields shows that the original dwellings were much more modest in size and in the extent of their garden grounds compared to those which would come later.
